I have a similar question; pond is 60 wide, over 100 ft long; averages 8-9 ft depth (approx 350,000 total gals); I want to keep fish alive (catfish, perch, minnows, etc) and regulate moss and algae. Problem is there is no electicity or wind, so must go solar. How do I match up a 1/8 or 1/10 HHP diffuser/air compressor system to a solar array; who do I contact? Or what pump do I need to get 2-4 gpm, level ground, and the solar array.

I will be very interested to see what CM has for you. My pond is about a quarter mile from the nearest electrical service so I investigated solar and wind generation. I visited a alternative energy discussion board where the experts pretty much destroyed my dreams. Turns out that small scale wind generators are notoriously high maintenance and unreliable and solar is very inefficient. It would have cost me about 20K for enough solar panels, inverter and batteries to run two 1/3 horse aerators and a couple of light bulbs.

How big is your pond; length, width, depth; mine calculates out to about 350,000 to 400,000 gals. Anyway, in my search, I have located a small aerator/diffusor powered by solar, all in one package; don't yet know how well it is going to work (I ordered it, it is supposed to be here today, and it only cost $400-not a huge loss if it does not work); it is solar powered, but no battery packs, so I am only going to have aeration during the day. I have seen a number of ponds with NO aeration, and the fish seem to do OK; I am going to find out if this one will do any good, if it is way underpowered, etc. If it works, but is underpowered, or seems too small for the pond, it looks cheaper to by 2 or 3 of these and space them out in the pond...instead of investing huge $$ in a bigger set up. I will let you know how it works out; I will install later this month. And then see if any of my 50 catfish and 50 perch survive or thrive.

I'm very interested to see if this works. I saw the same one and has spiked my interest. Let me know asap if it works well. Thanks

Can you provide a link or scan from a catalog what you ordered to give us a better idea what you're using?

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Hey Cecil,
I'm not the company that was referenced but I am working on a "Green" Solar system. With three full time engineers on staff, it takes a while for them to feel comfortable to release as system for market.
