yesterday i saw a very strange thing. it was a fish ?? sucking some floating debris off the surface. the mouth was about an inch circle fleshy thing, couldn't see the rest but think it extended about a foot back a little ways under the water. any ideas as to what it was?

Could have been a lot of things. There is a fish called a Sacramento Sucker (and no it's not a politician)...  Any idea what type of fish are in the pond?

I didn't think there were, but are there carp West of the Rockies? What color was the mouth and/or fish?

There sure are Esshup, go on to youtube.com and type in Carp fishing in California. Bow fishing for carp in the Sacramento Delta is popular.
