I'm presently getting started on painting a replica of the former world record redear (shellcracker) to be auctioned off with the proceeds going to the Jesse West Endowment fund. I was set to paint it as a male but in reality the mold was cast from a female fish. (It's obvious the fish was gravid with eggs). Even though a male fish's colors may be more striking I don't think it would be fair to whoever gets the replica.

I have lots of pics of male redears but none of females that I can find. I do know the red edged ear tab is more subtle and other markings are more subtle in a female, but I'd like to get a picture to use.

Can anyone give me a link to pic that may have been posted on the site or post a good picture of a female redear? If you don't know how to post pics I'd be glad to help you through it.

The sooner I get a good picture the sooner I will post the pic and the finished product on the site up for auction! \:o

Here are a couple females I found on the net:

Here's a very bland female that was caught in a local lake:(At least I think it's a female or it's an old male). The dusky sides make me wonder.

Here a nice looking male. Unfortunately like I said the blank is obviously a female:

Cecil:

I don't know if these will do you any good or not. I wish that I knew last week, I put about 1/2 dz. of each sex in the pond....

redear 1

redear 2

redear 3

I still need to check BigBluegill.com!

Nevermind, it looks like you are doing just fine by yourself!

On this computer I can enlarge the whole screen, which also enlarges the pic. I think I can e-mail it to you if that will help.

No need. I think I'm going with a combination of the first and second picture I posted. Or just the second one. Thanks for the help though!

Top left is the female RES

Cecil, I think that you should strongly consider this as a pose for your RES mount. It is an honest dipection of the behaviour of the much feared species...

(It also happens to be the very first photo I ever altered posted on the forums.)

I'm sorry Jeff but my taxicratic oath won't allow me to mount a fish that looks like that. "Do no harm."

The taxicratic oath, eh? I can just see it in all the history books: Cecil Baird, originator of the taxicratic oath. Better yet, Wikipedia will include the term.

Huh, go figure, I always thought that the taxicratic oath was something that IRS agents pledged. Learn sumthin every day.

On a serious note I get confused with tax accountants all the time in the yellow pages. How people fail to comprehend what they read is beyond me. Had a woman call me up once and ask what I charge to do a 1040 short form. Who needs help with a 1040 short anyway?

Oh yeah and then there is the taxi service. We get those calls too.

I would mount her in a heart beat. Or better yet, I'd trade her in on the Cash for Lunkers program I keep hearing about! (please don't read anything into the first sentence)

Well, if some of the entries I see on Wikipedia are any indication I shouldn't have any problem posting the taxicratic oath.
