Hi guys. Need some help from those of you with experience! I haven't done much chemical vegetation control. I like to recommend the granular aquathol around here for spot treatment of rooted vascular plants (at least in ponds without excessive vegetation).
One of my local cooperators did that. He said it worked great on the pondweeds, but not on the buttercup (Ranunculus). I had thought aquathol would get the buttercup as well. Does anyone know anything here that might help me?
Thanks!!

Dave I have used aquathol with good results on pondweed and some others. What is buttercup ? Here is a site on plants and mgt options including chemical options. http://aquaplant.tamu.edu/http://www.cdms.net/LDat/ld5NE002.pdf - Aqua Neat - a glyphosate see pg 7 of label lists buttercup (Ranunculus). I did not see it on aquathol label Label http://www.cdms.net/LDat/ld7CQ010.pdf

Thanks, Eric. It's not even on the TAMU list. Ahh, obviously I needed to do more reading and checking. So, I pulled out a couple of textbooks. Looks like another common name is crowfoot or water-crowfoot, depending on species. Does that help anyone? Ranunculus is the genus, and I suspect that either longirostris or subrigidus is the species. I'll have to take a closer look next time I am at the pond. We've just called it buttercup for years.

... either longirostris or subrigidus ... I can never remember which of those was Kirk Douglas and which was Tony Curtis.

Bump.
1. Anyone with any experience with granular aquathol?
2. Anyone use another type of granular herbicide for spot treatment (e.g., a swimming beach)?
3. Anyone in the North Country ever dealt with Buttercup/Crowfoot?
Thanks.

I did ask Aquacide Company about a granular herbicide for spot treatment of buttercup (crowfoot). They were kind enough to send the following recommendation. I thought I might post the info here, just in case anyone encounters this plant problem, assuming the moderators think it is acceptable.
WATER BUTTERCUP (ranunculus)
We recommend the use of WEEDTRINE-D Liquid plus Cide-Kick II Liquid (non-ionic surfactant) or a tank mix of WEEDRINE-D, CUTRINE-PLUS and CIDE-KICK II.
Use 30 oz. of WEEDTRINE-D with 3 oz. CIDE-KICK II or combine 18 oz. WEEDTRINE-D, 4 oz. CUTRINE-PLUS Liquid and 3 oz. CIDE-KICK II. Add enough water to the concentrate to make 1-1/2 gallons of spray solution. 1-1/2 gallons of solution will treat 1,000 sq. ft. (100’ x 10’). It is best to treat before flowering.
When using liquid herbicides, thorough coverage of the foliage is necessary. For foliage beneath the surface, inject under water with a pressure sprayer coming into contact with as much of the weed as possible. Apply on a calm, sunny day and before flowers appear if possible. Repeat treatment may be needed if weeds begin to show signs of recovery or if root system continues to send up new growth.
