IMHO the worst you could do would be to add just that more weight of waste material (biomass)to the pond.

If you plan on eating the gill's, throw the cat food away! Most pet feeds contain some real nasty chemicals that will stay in food animals. The caveat on pet feeds, "Not for Human Consumption" sorta applies here! If the fish eat the food---so will you.
