I am adding some fish to my 5 ac. lake in hopes of geting a little more aggressive lmb. My lake is 14 yrs. old and can be difficult to fish at times. Now I do have some large lmb's 10+ lbs. I want to add about 8-10 fish in the 2.5- 5 lb. range. Question is should they be all of the same sex or a mix? Is this amount enough to make a difference?
Thanks for the help in advance.
David

Is this info still accurate ?
"The pond is 5 ac. and have plenty of forage. Bluegills of all sizes as well as threadfin shad. Greg shocked last year and all is in good order. The LMB are extreemly hard to catch so I think they have mostly Florida genetics. I have even had 2 choke on turtles over the years. It is very common for the larger bass to hit large bream and 12" bass as the are being reeled in. I have never used live bream as bait, but the day I decide to, I have no doubt a lake record will be set. I will try to get some pictures next time one tries to bite more than it can swallow. You will not believe the size of these bream they are trying to swallow. P.S. these are not old LMB's. Their mouth is very small compared to their body size. "
If so you should contact Greg and see if he has any of the Northern LMB left. A few of those should help the catchability in time.
"Question is should they be all of the same sex or a mix? Is this amount enough to make a difference? "
It will help over time. I would use a mix so the possibility of 2 northerns reproducing a batch of 100% northerns exists.

ewest,
that is the same pond I am talking about. The fish I am getting are coming out of a local pond . The fish are the healthiest I have ever seen. They come from F1 stocked about 7 years ago.
Would you introduce more than 8-10. I have not had any luck w/ Greg finding what I need, so I am going this route.

If looking for bass larger than 2.5 lbs it will be tough. Problem is with local fish is they are watered down F1 stock, not sure how agressive they might be. David i will be getting some more northerns just let us knwo for sure what you need. They migh be smaller but will help with agressive nature more than offspring of F1's. You do have some awesome bass in that pond.

Greg,
Let me know when you get some larger fish in stock. I am trying to get these fish in before the spawn. I lost a ton of threadfin and bream 3< inches over the spillway during those big rains, but at least the lake is full for first time in 2 years.

Assuming you don't have to many LMB already then adding some F-1 won't hurt. What we do is order what we want way in advance (call Greg and order some 1+ lb Northern LMB for next Feb) and in the meantime cull twice as many LMB as we will add. It is best to add them about a mth before the LMB spawn. I do think pure northerns would help a lot more than some F-1s.
