HaHa your arms need to be longer to make him look big. There is a bunch of nice cats. How long did it take to catch them?

I was wondering maybe electrofishing. Why were they kept high numbers or are they trying to be eraticated?

One of the grad students here is doing an age and growth study on the Arkansas River. He needs 100 each of blues, channels, and flatheads in each pool.

I didn't see any big flatheads or were they hiding on the bottom... Looks like mostly blue cats...

A couple of those blue cats look to be pushing the upper teens though.

The biggest one was probably 10 lbs. Most were around 5 lbs.

Many look dead, or are they just relaxing after being electrocuted?
Excerpt from Robert Crais' "The Monkey's Raincoat:" "She took another microscopic bite of her sandwich, then pushed it away. Maybe she absorbed nutrients from her surroundings."

Chris I sure hope he is factoring in the limited nature of electrofishing data. It will take more than just EF to get accurate data. The big deep running cats will just get missed. For example Greg and I sampled one 5 acre pond for about 2 hrs and got several hundred 4 inch BG ,a few small LMB and other lepomis and 1 bowfin. No large LMB , crappie , or cats. Several mths later I rotenoned it and got these.

Ewest,
I talked to the grad student today. He said that he is using an equation to estimate the age and size of fish bigger than the ones we can catch.

Never heard of that. Ask him what it is and how it works. Lets see - I caught 2 1 lb LMB that must mean there are 15 lbers in there.

You need to hold that fathead in front of your hands. Otherwise it just looks like any normal sized fathead.

First we have to know how big the fish was that he just ate, so we can add that on.
Get out and fish.

Is that a 3 lb LMB tail sticking out its mouth ? A good example of what they can do in your pond.

Hey Chris: Are you working on that project with Chris Vrba? Just curious, I went to school with him. The picture you posted of the tub of fish looks suspiciously like some he just posted on facebook.

60-65 lbs, That's a big flathead! I guess my Condello fish holding technique was really good. The fish weighed 21.5 pounds and the fish in its mouth is a 1 pound flathead. I think the little one swam into the big ones mouth while in the tub and couldn't get back out. The big one was knocked the entire time. Hey Chris: Are you working on that project with Chris Vrba? Just curious, I went to school with him. The picture you posted of the tub of fish looks suspiciously like some he just posted on facebook. Yes I am working with him.
