I've got this small pond renovation I've been working on. It's a bobcat dig that I started on during the Christmas holidays. Family obligations kept me tied up this weekend but I was able to slip down there to get a few hours in this evening. Burned up all the daylight spreading topsoil. So it's dark and I'm pulling a broadcast spreader loaded with rye grass seed around behind the four wheeler. As I'm making a pass across the top of the dam a frog comes hopping out of the woods across my path and down into the old pond. Now there aint a drop of water in there and hasn't been for two months. I'm hoping it's a good sign.

It is raining in DFW right now. They had a big article in the Dallas Morning Snooze about 75% of Texas being in drought or advanced drought. 1 inch of rain at my house so far in the rain gauge and they still issued a fire warning for this afternoon . I hope it is raining at my pond \:\) .

We got almost 1/2 inch at my house in Hurst. That's the most I've seen in a long time.

Not good news Tom. Looks like that frog was getting in line for a shower not a swim.

7/10 of an inch here in Goldthwaite America. Smelled fresh this morning! Maybe more tonight. Went to the pond and it didn't come up any that I could tell.

"A horned toad can tell you which way to go" and a bull frog can tell you when the water will come.

Got an opportunity to slip down Thursday evening expecting I might find that ol' bull frog down in the bottom kicking up dust. It's not much, but it's a start and about as much water as the old pond could hold before I started.

I was greeted at the front gate by a group of about 25 pigs. Rain brings 'em out into the pastures where they go into roto-tiller mode. I'm thinkin they might be pressing for that one way ticket to Belgium. Heybud, if you ever get an opportunity to post some pics of that trap it would be apreciated. Those guys would make excelent fodder for a little foreign exchange.

That sunrise pic is worthy of Pondapalooza III when Brettski next puts on his videographer hat!

In two rains I got .4" but it rained more everywhere around me. We are hurting. The winter grasses show up to die again and again. Ponds are low. It's SAD.

Brian, I went to Bowie yesterday and looked around. We had gotten 1.3 inches of rain. That is huge but, after a long time without rain, it did absolutely nothing for my ponds. My smaller stock watering tanks were bone dry. It all soaked in. If my bigger ones came up more than 1.3 inches, I couldn't tell it.

I need 3 or 4 days of steady rain followed by a frog strangler.

An update after last weeks rain event. Pretty good progress, but I need one more just like it.

I'll admit, I'm itching to go to Overtons now and think I'll probably will later this week. A few gams were released on Sunday.

And speaking of sign, I've had a few visitors to the new pond. I'll be tracking this monster.

In fact the pigs were out in force on Sunday. They were stiring the oak leaves. Sounded like the entire North Korean army out in my little oak patches. Probably saw better than 50. Lots of piglets.
