Thank you ewest. That's a good site. It's definetly not Chara. I'm now 99% sure it's Widgeon Grass. I don't know which would be worse to have in my pond.

I actually consider some chara a good thing in a pond. Good habitat for the yoy fish, larva and crustaceans.
I'm a believer in a "weedy" pond being a healthy productive pond.
12 ac pond in NW Missouri. 28' max depth at full pool. Fish Present: LMB, BG, RES, YP, CC, WB, HSB, WE, BCP, WCP, GSH.

Looks a lot like Chara to me but I'm certainly no plant whiz. Grass carp ought to do a good job on that stuff.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

what is its habit? how tall does it grow in the water column? does it grow all season or a little later in season?
