This past fall I got 4500 native blue gill and 1500 redear form the state..along with 250 channels. They were stock this past October. Now the bluegill they gave me were about the size of rice grains!!!! Heck if you were FORCED to fish with these on a hook, there would be NO WAY to do it, they are SOOOOoooo dang SMALL!!! the red ear were about an inch.
Now I am thinking about getting 2500 redbreast and 2500 coppernose these are 1 - 2 inch fish, what do you all think??? Any comments???
Wanted to run this by you guys before I made any last minute moves.
BTW the lake is 30 feet deep in the deepest parts and is 9.3 acres GPS by the NRCS
thanks guys

Big Pond, Come on now... I've seen you slinking around this board for a long, long, time, heck you've got 455 posts. You know the drill. 1000 bg per acre, fatheads, feed 'um, let 'em spawn put in your prey fish, which for most of us are bass, but I know if you had your druthers, it would be yeller cats.

Big-POnd just got home from fish delivery out by your pond close to I-20. I think adding the extra coppernose and redbreast is fine since state only provides 500/acre and so dang small.

OOOoohh yeah....I put some blues in as well 250 from 4 to 8 inches...might should have waited until the Bream got a little bigger. These came from a hatcher near Santee Cooper. He was the original guy who stocked the famous 'Arkwensas' Blue cat in Lake Marion and lake Moltrie. I have only TWO flatheads 6 inches long that are in this lake. They were from the Oconee river...will not put any more flatheads in.
My real concern is that the lake is taking SOOOooo long to fill up! It seems as if it has been at the half way mark since past September. I'm wondering if I did not 'over built' my water shed. I hope the thing fills on up!! It is scareing me..
Greg man, you need to stop by and take a peek at this thang...give me a shout when you go by there again... Also, do you think it is a good time to set the feeder out? or is it still too cold?

Sounds good. That is a pretty big lake and it takes a lot of water to fill it. Anyway talking about feeding fish, i have fed all winter except when the temp outside was below 40. I have noticed that the colder the water and temp that only bigger fish come out. Fish i say over 3 pounds. Also have yet to get a blue cat to come up and take a pellet. I guess they are to busy chasing shad. Has anyone noticed any fish spawning yet? I have seen a couple of bass on the bed and a few bluegill. I been catching a few crappie lately and they had eggs in them when i gutted them.

I think i have only seen a couple of times a few 6inch blues come up but it was hard to tell if they were not baby channels. The fish i have coming to the feed right now are channels and bluegills. Before it got cold i had a few carp and if i fed during the day alligator gar came and ate.
