This has probably been happening over the last few weeks. My 1/2 acre pond which is usually pretty green has become clear. I do have a few ducks on the pond and the fish population is pretty high. This evening I put a couple of feed scoops of bass fertilizer in the pond. Do I need to me worried about anything. I also run a powerhouse fountain everyday and pump creek water when it gets low. Also the green filament algea has appeared floating here or there but the overall water clarity is almost clear. Again usually I am worried about the water having too many nutrients in it and this seems weird.

Your plankton bloom had crashed/died. So has mine on one pond but I don't know why. The algae appearance is probably due to pumping from the creek and/or sunlight penetration. Be careful about fertilizing at this time of year.

I'm going to wait for Fall and probably try cottonseed meal. It is a lot milder and AHVatsa is reporting good results. Cecil Baird isn't impressed but I'm worried about overdoing it.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Is the plankton bloom crash really something to worry about? Also thanks for the response Dave. I haven't talked to you in a good while. I hope all is well with you and your family.

I don't think it's anything to worry about especially in a non aquaculture producing pond. Only down side is you are now open to a possible increase in macrophytes (bottom growing aquatic plants.)

I had a pond go clear on me a few years ago because aquatic plants (Chara in this case) increased and absorbed the nutrients starving out the phytoplankton. Have you noticed an increase in macrophytes?

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.
