Here are a couple pics of my new pond, it's 60% complete, we still need to create the "rabbit ears". Dirt will now be pushed opposite the main dam, each ear will create an elevated mound for deer hunting stands, 150 yds apart.

Nice work, the truck sure helps give perspective to the size of the project.

1/4 & 3/4 acre ponds. A thousand miles from no where and there is no place I want to be...

Yes, very nice Eastland. The grade at the tree/island adds to that perspective. What is the water level at this island area?

All right, I'll bite...what the heck are "rabbit ears"?

Matt, the pond will be shaped like a rabbit's head, the ears will be deep coves for easy fishing. One of the ears should be easy to build, it's the original channel about 5' deep already. The other ear will be tricky as they will be pushing more dirt.

B'Ski, the depth is 13' on the left side of the island, about 10' on the right, it may briefly go under at full pool, but in my location, that's not going to be a problem.

The Playboy Bunny Pond.

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Will you build an elevated stand for the deer hunting? I'm planning on building a deer stand this year that will be nice and comfortable. We want to be able to spend all day in there, regardless of the weather, and enjoy ourselves. Wether we're reading a book, or just watching the woods. Mine will be in between my big pond and a field that I'm putting a food plot in. I don't expect to see anything around the pond so much as I just want to be able to see it for the joy of it being there.

My plan is for it to be 12 feet up at the floor with stairs and two landings to get up to it. I like the idea that anybody can walk up the stairs and not risk their lives. I've seen some pretty scary ladders and stairs to get into some blinds. It will be 8ft by 8ft and six feet tall at the walls. I'm putting in sliding windows and might even insulate it. Not sure on that just yet.

Congrats on your pond.

Eddie

It's not how many ideas you have, but how many you make happen.

3/4 and 4 acre ponds.

Eddie, here's an idea for starters...
My son took three fat does from this stand last fall while I sat in the easy chair - not deer hunting - deer shooting - TP&W conservation propgram... \:\)

George...that's a SHWEEEEET blind.

We have one that's similar, albeit (there's your word for the day...look it up girls - sorry flashback to when my daughters were younger - a different story) a bit tackier. It's made out of old steel road signs, about 15 feet tall and portable as it's mounted on an old gravity box running gear.

...and, imagine that, you can actually stand straight up in yours. I tried to tell Redlinger it needed to be just SIX INCHES taller... \:\(

What's those curtain rod-lookin' things above the winders?

I heartily agree - I'm saving those 2 pics as reference material for when I someday build a 2-story, blind-over-a-storage shed at my new pond, near my woods.

Matt - as a guest on a ranch with a 640 acre "high-fence" pasture, I was in awe and didn't even notice until you mentioned.
If you think the blind was nice, you should have seen his "bunkhouse"...

Ok, First, no fair, you are spending mega bucks to get 12'- 20' off the ground ! I'm not sure how well it translated over the phone to the owner of the company, down to the dozer operator, but I'm hoping to have you beat, you may die laughing at my next set of pics, but my final instructions were to push the dirt from the 'ears' up to an elevated level for placing a deer stand. I will be going back out there next week, so expect new pictures next Friday \:\)

Eddie, I think you named the pond, very funny !

Theo/Matt, I'm going to have a big food plot, and post the pictures of my deer...do you have a RW chart? \:D
