I put my orginal stocking of CNBG in Jan. 2007. They are anywhere between 6" and 7"'s long but not very thick. When do they put mass on?

That would depend on food supply. Hungry BG will stay kinda thin. Feeding pellets or enhanced natural food supply (by reduced numbers) will beef them up, really pretty quick. I would expect to see heavy BG by the end of the season if they have plenty to eat.
IME some ne'er-do-wells will stay skinny no matter what. Cull them.
