Anybody have any good tips on getting rid of wasps? On our cabin we have rough cut lumber on the underside of the porch. The wasps are everywhere. We can watch them going in and out constantly. They have got to have an huge complex up there. I can sray them with raid long distance wasp spray when they come out, and burn up an afternoon and a case of spray, but I don't think I am making much headway. I will pull off a board or two and spray something up under the roof if someone has had some luck with a product. Thanks

Brotherhayes,
Welcome. Glad to see somebody else from WV.
My guess is that the wasps have built a huge nest. At our previous house they would build them under the front and back porches this time of year. By the time they would get into the attack mode, they would have nests the size of footballs.
I would saturate the hives after with wasp spray. An hour, or so later, I'd use my power washer to really blast the nests until they would fall apart. They sure can be nasty.
Good luck, Ken
P.S. I'm about 20 miles west of Winchester just off Route 50. Are you anywhere nearby?

Thanks Catmandoo. I hate to think how big a nest may be up there. Only one way to find out I guess. Our place is in Camp Creek near exit 20 off I-77. We live down here in the Moorsville NC area, and go up every other weekend work permitting. I am looking to see if I can find a spray that I can use that would keep them away from the cabin. Something that would remain on the wood for at least the season. Thanks again

City Boy Lesson Number 29: Don't attempt to erradicate wasps nests that are located in your barn while you are also located in your barn (with the barn doors closed and too much junk located in your way to effectively run around in an idiot-like fashion waving your arms). Always keep a clear escape path. Lesson 29, subsection (a): Always ensure that you have enough wasp spray in the can such that when you antagonize said wasps into a killing frenzy, you have enough remaining chemical in the can to kill all pursuing wasps. Lessson 29, subsection (b): When embroiled in a battle as described in section 29(a), the lubricant WD-40 can in fact be utilized to kill wasps. I'm thinking of trying the spray product in this link. Supposedly you can spray in on nests (or potential nest sites) as a deterrent. Anyone tried this? Wasp spray on Amazon Also what about those fake wasp nests, do they work at all? Dang wasps drive me crazy also.

If the portion of your cabin they are flying into is some what enclosed throw a couple "flea bombs" under there. That should take care of them, I beleive some of them have a residuel effect for a couple of months, plus it will kill spiders and other pests living under there.

I wonder if moth balls would have any deterrent affect?

Get a propane or electric mosquito fogger. Add a little extra insecticide to the kerosene/resmethrin that comes with it.

You can buy a spray can of stuff that's made to keep spiders off your house. I think it contains permethrin. I use it at our lake place to keep spiders off under the overhangs and by the lights and it keeps everything off. If you are spraying under overhangs it will last for weeks. It isn't very expensive and is already ready to go. Go to a camper or RV dealer and they will have it.

Demon WP works pretty good here. I use it for spiders and wasps. I get mine at Estes, Inc.

Good morning, First post so bear with me. We've had success getting rid of wasps with, of all things, Simple Green. We get them in the spring on the sunny side of the house and garage. They crawl in all the siding nooks and crannies. I use a 50/50 mix in a sprayer and spray the corner posts and soffits. They hate it! Even keep some in a hand spray bottle for the pesky ones. Knocks 'em right out of the air. Sticks to their wings.

What a great first post Kaleva Tom, and welcome to Pond Boss.
Simple Green. You are right I would never have thought of that.
I'm going to try it.
Wait a minute, this isn't one of those "let's talk the city boy into spraying the wasp nest with Simple Green" practicle jokes is it?

Thanks for the welcome. Long-time lurker. It's not the "silver bullet" for wasps. It won't kill them, but does keep them away. I quit trying to kill all of them, you can't.
