I was at the creek fishing and I dropped an inexpensive lure into the water near the bank. I saw roughly where it went in so I bent down to rescue my $.88 investment and dropped my cellphone into the creek. I tried all of the tricks to salvage a wet phone without success.

I found a Casio phone through Verizon that is supposed to be waterproof. For one test a reviewer put the phone in a gallon of water and then made calls using a wireless headset. He claimed there was no difference in voice quality. The phone doesn't have a lot of fancy features by today's standards, but for someone like me it may be the wisest choice.

Has anyone had experience with one of these?

GW - I accidently hopped into the pond last summer while I still had my cell phone with me and soaked it, the water was a little deeper than I anticipated. The first thing I did was take the battery out. Later that day while driving around I held it out the window while driving around to dry it out. Once it was thoroughly dry I put the battery back in and still works great, it even still takes pictures too. \:\)

I tried drying mine out too Shorty. There are a lot of success stories about using different techniques to dry a wet phone. None of them has worked for me this time. As much as I'm around water I it might be nice to have a phone that you can dunk without any concern. They say you can sit at the bottom of your pond and make a call on this one. However, they warn against trying this if you have a successful trophy Redear pond. \:\)

Gw I had to buy that phone earlier this year due to the fact I lost two phones to water damage last year. I had insurance but they will only replace your phone twice a year and charge fifty bucks each time. I have had the phone now for a couple of months and have dropped it on concrete and gotten it wet without any loss of signal. So far I am very happy with it.

Thanks James, I need to decide if I want to leave Alltel for Verizon to get this phone. I have 3 months left on my contract.

My first cell phone slipped out of my shirt pocket at work and fell right down to the bottom of a 12,000 gal bleach tank. I pumped out the tank and retrieved the phone but it was a goner. Lesson learned "never put the phone in your shirt pocket". Then about a month ago I got call while driving home from work. After the call I put the cell in my shirt pocket because I was just going in the house and it would be safe there. Well when I got in the house I starting making some supper and noticed the house dogs food bowl was empty. I bent over to pick it up and out slips the cell and lands squarely in the dogs water bowl. Another goner. Lesson learned "never put you cell phone in your shirt pocket no matter what!" We will see.

Yeah, but if you had a Gzone phone you could have made calls while the phone was in the dog's dish. I think the bleach would be a problem with any phone though. Something else I like about this phone is that you can supposedly bang it around pretty hard without damaging it.

I got lucky last weekend. Mine only went into the mud.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.
