I've just bought some land with an 11 ac and a 1 ac pond on it. The 1 acre pond has been there for years, and to my knowledge, has never been stocked. The 11 ac pond was dug about 2 years ago and has not been stocked either. The big pond has depths of over 20 ft is some spots and is pretty much void of cover except for a few small willows. My question is, how should i go about stocking these ponds. I would like the big pond to have bass and gills and the small pond to have catfish. I would like to know how much this may cost me to adequately stock these two and what steps to i need to take to get the ball rolling. Thanks......

Look under "Questions & Observations." Then click on the topic "growth." There's some numbers for stocking there in the responses.

Also do a search for "stocking" on the forum home page. I saw a lot of stocking numbers in there specific to what you wanted (bass & gills), but you'll have to scan through some of the topics.

Good Luck.

Some states offer stocking at cheap prices through the USDA. However, they don't stock fatheads (atleast in Il) you'll have to buy them on your own. In IL I think the cost is $25 plus $1 per acre, but I think that is for ponds up to 10 acres.
