Hi I am happy to have found this forum. We completed a 3 acre pond in the dry weather a couple weeks ago. The monsoons came and now the pond is more than two thirds full. The water is of course muddy. My question concerns when to stock the pond. We are in extreme Southern Illinois in former cypress swamp area near the Mississippi River. The pond is about 12 ft deep in it's deepest portion and a lot of 4 to 6 ft depths. We had planned to stock with catfish, blue gill and Bass and were told to also include some red ear sunfish. I didn't think we would have water in the pond anyways near this quickly. How long do I have to wait for the water or pond to "settle" to begin stocking? What should we stock this fall? Density? Any thoughts on species? Thanks very much.

Will, Start with your forage fish next spring .. first fathead minnows and sunfish (B/G & Redear if you like) Don't add any preditors untill next fall.
Click on [search] in the upper right corner of this window & search for [Bluegill per acre]or [Bass per acre]ect. Your questions have been answered many times .. and you'll find lots of answers to questions you didn't know you had! Ric
