1/3 acre pond 12 ft deep. We stocked initially 250 hbg and 4 lbs of fhm in 2018and we do feed. Latge water events last year and this year caused us to lose a bunch of the hbg. We put in 100 bg and 50 cc to try and make it more self sufficient. Recently we have found small GSF and we caught a crappie. I imagine they came from the only other pond in this watershed. Question is do I stock bass this fall to start controlling crappie and BG or do I go with something like a HSB?

My LMB have caused the almost extinction of my crappie (which I didn’t want to happen). Not getting any recruitment because of the high population of BG eating the eggs
Do you have LMB in your pond? HSB might be able to control the crappie, I have never had them yet

Not saying lmb arent present but we haven't seen them. A billion big bullfrog tadpoles though.

They have been spawning like crazy. Of course the HBG are huge as are some of the BG. I've got small BG and GSF all over. I put in a single LMB, but it may be time to try something else. I thought the CC would knock down the reproduction but apparently that isn't happening.

Have you been in contact with the pond owner in the watershed above your pond? that is what I did, went and talked to the owner about what he had stocked in his pond because inevitably, if not this year, next year, a rain event will bring yoy into your pond, in my case I was in luck, he had stocked pretty similar to what I was shooting for and I have seen LMB in my pond which I haven't stocked yet with predator fish.
I haven't seen any BC yet in my pond but that doesnt mean there are not a few of them there, or many.
I assumed it might make a difference what time of year that the rain event happened as to what young fry washes out the overflow, I know last year after I had just built the pond and it was filling up we had tons of rain events, all the way from March thru the end of May, I think I may have received a ton of stocking fry from his pond which was obviously full when the rains started.

Yep we have fished it. Only ever caught green sunfish. The pond upstream is <1/4 acre and pretty shallow. He never stocked it. We had large rain events last year. I know we got yoy fish from that pond when his overflowed. Heck he has no official spillway so it runs around the end of the pond dam, down his entrance, cuts a channel across the road into my ditch and then into my pond 150 yards later.

Talked to Charlie Wallace at Wallace Fish Farms. He has pellet trained lmb that are 4-6" long. We are going to put 25 of them in. I am also going to grab another 25 channel cat. Next year will probably throw in another 50 or so large hybrid bluegills. Pellet trained lmb have me intrigued.
