I am trying to find out if I can use CUTRIN PLUS if I have three triplod carp in my pond. I put them in December and realize it can take 2-3 years for them to clear up. The pond cleared during cool months , but now it’s 101-106 degrees here in Texas and folage growing back bad. Can’t fish because of all the American pond weed .

Help!

Ummm, Cutrine Plus is for algae, not vascular plants. Read the label before applying it to your pond, and pay special attention to what is to be used for and the application rate.

Yes ----- if your main plant is American Pond weed aka long leaf pond weed do not use Cutrine Plus. CutrinePlus is for planktonic algae and filamentous algae and will not suppress growth of Amer.Pond Weed.
How big is the pond?
Does the AmPondweed completely surround the shoreline?
A weed razor is good for cutting open fishing access areas in beds of AmPondweed until the grass carp grow into years 3-4 and provide better control of pondweed. If the pond is large then you may need a couple more grass carp.
There are other good herbicides for reducing pondweeds.

My pond is 1/2 acre. The american pond weed covers 1/4 of pond. I have been pulling it by hand. The area it is in also has the filamentous algae and film on top of water- very stagnate looking. I do not have an aerator yet due to costs. I can buy two more carp legally but had wanted to wait another year to give the three I have more time to mature and grow. I can send you a picture. My husband has heart disease and we are in and out of hospital so I don’t really have anyone to help.

I looked at the weed cutters for pond weed, but I don’t think I can throw it good enough and pull in due to my size.

What other herbicide is good for pond weed and is it safe for the carp? I

My other fish are doing great. I gave channel cats, blue gills, redear bream, healthy stock of minniws. I think I have some bass. I stocked them, but have only caught one so I am not sure I have many.

Reward, Harvester, Tribune, Tsunami DQ, Diquat, Weedtrine, Clearcast, Habitat.

All are safe if you follow the directions on how to apply that are on the label that is on the jug.

Now remember, the less plants you have growing in your pond the more algae you will see.

Keep in mind that killing lots of weeds in summer and their quick death and decay can cause a large dissolved oxygen loss and this DO sag can kill fish which will be most noticeable in the morning. BE careful and watchful.. Weeds are always best killed in spring when lots of DO is present and weeds are smaller biomass.
