We are in northeast texas and are digging a pond within the next month or so. 1st time owning a pond so we are very new to this and have a couple questions.

So we hope so stock forage fish sometime this summer and give them some time to grow. How long should we wait to put the predators in?
Lets say its 4-6 months from stocking forage, are there any largemouths available anywhere for stock in the fall? I have hard they only have available June/July. Called Overton Hatchery and said they only have em till end of June.

Also debating on what type of largemouths. We want some floridas or at least florida hybrid. Should we go pure or/and hybrid? Add Native northerns?

Pond will be anywhere from 1-2 acres probably. We would like to have some catfish, Bass, and hopefully hybrid stripers as the predators.
Is this even possible? Open to doing LOTS of supplemetry forage stocking if necesary.

Finally, If any of you guys are in northeast Texas area, what are your go to hatchery/stocking places.

Depending on when your pond gets done (and fills up), might be cutting it close to be able to get predators in this year. You can definitely get your forage started (FHM and GS) and be ready to stock in the spring. I'm in the same situation, I got my pond being started in the next couple of weeks and I know my patience will probably get the best of me.

I’m in Buffalo area and use Overtons (20 miles away). I have native LMB and in seven years some are 10#+....

Okay - Buffalo, Texas. Whew!

Overton's has an excellent reputation, and having met him, Todd is a good guy.
