I'm looking for advice. I live on a river and have a concrete bottom boat basis that's approximately 25' x 16' and depth can fluctuate between 6" and 30", most often close to 2' depth.

I'm retiring next month and want to supplement by income by raising shiners. I'm in Florida; we have gators, otters, snakes, turtles, and all kinds of bird and larger fish as predators.

My intent is to build 6 containers, think aquariums with screen versus glass, so I can sequestor by size, gender etc. I'll take all the advice I can get on what to use and how to detract predators. And I thank you in advance for your replies!

I believe I would use heavy screen across the top and supported by pipe or something. You could experiment with openings for access. I mean openings that are somewhat hinged for access.

You will also have to do something for water exchanges and oxygenation.

There are posts on here from guys who are raising fish in an RAS.

Thanks. I'll search out their posts and go from there. I have a pump system in place and will add circulators. The screening is what I'm researching now. Looking forward to retirement mostly

Actually spawning shiners is apparently a real process. Have you considered getting small shiners and growing them to 8"+ to sell to trophy bass fishing types?
