I know that Oak is bad to use green, but having redrawn my property line I cutting 15 trees out and have maple and hickory availiable. Are these good to use or do they suffer from the same problems with tannic acid? Thanks much. Bob

Bob, I believe tannin is an oak product but wouldn't take a chance. A couple of simple tests should work. Cut a piece of green wood and put it in a bucket of water. See if the water changes any. If tannic, the water will visibly blacken. If no problem, put a couple of minnows or other small fish in and see if they live.
