Hi guys. Great website, I only found it a few days ago but it's been a blast reading through all the information. I have a couple questions...

1) Do cedar trees sink on their own without weighting? I thought I read once that they do.

2) In another post I found pictures of fake weeds someone had either created or bought. One picture showed that back end of a SUV filled with these weeds, apparently ready for their ride to the pond. Does anyone know which picture I'm talking about and how these were made?

Not sure about the cedar trees but the fake weeds were used by Dwight. I don't know were he got them but send him a PM and I bet that he can tell you.

Glad ta have ya aboard, hersh!
That would be Dwight "the mule" Bremer. He checks in pretty often, so he can probably explain his haul. I bet the pics were in the archives, within the structure thread.

I forget. Did Dwight have Reel Weeds as featured in PB Mag?

I have been told that cedar logs will sink if they are fresh cut but will float if they have dried out. Once they absorb water from the pond, they should sink again if what I heard is true.

I have a question along the lines of the ceder trees, I just fresh cut 4 of them about 12 feet long each and wondered if ther eis a preferred way to lay them in the water, but end upslope? downslope, at 90 degree from shallow to deeper water?? If I leave the butt at surface, they will go from 1-5 ft of water which is what I want, correct? I plan on putting them , 2 on each side of the pond and that way there will be about 75 feet apart ( 3/4 acre pond)
Thoughts, I also am curious about sinkage and floating. Ill try to sink them and let you know if they float or sink, I assume putting them in, green leaves and all is ok

Thanks
Salmonid

Mark, I've done them every way but not well. Think about how you will fish them. Your lure should travel towards the top, not the stump. Less hangups that way.

I put them in green but have often wondered if I should let the needles die before using them. So far no ill effects other than the extra finger I grew after swimming.

So you're up to, what, 8 or 9?

Total for both hands, yes.

What DD failed to tell you is that he lost three of them while feeding seagulls after one too many cervezas.

Growing one back puts him up to 8.

My wife thinks that 8 is the number of my remaining brain cells. That's OK; the Grandkids (the younger ones) think I'm a geenyus.
