Interesting YouTube Series about Pond ownership:

Been watching that for a while. Awesome pond. Would love to have that much water to play with.

Note the feeder on the dock!
Hey, thanks for sharing! The YouTube series on pond ownership sounds intriguing. I've always been curious about that topic. Have you considered using YouTube automation to make sure you catch all the new episodes? It's a nifty way to stay updated without missing a beat.

I just got the green light on what's going to be a really, really neat project. A 5 ac 20'ish deep "pond" tied to a 3/4 acre pond with a stream that is large enough to allow people to kayak from one pond to the other, and also have WE spawning habitat in the stream for WE to reproduce in the Spring. In the design/planning stages now, dirt work is supposed to begin in 2024.

The 3/4 ac pond is existing on the property now. Preliminary elevations show 18" height difference between the two ponds.

Dude.... That sounds amazingly cool! I'd love to convince my wife someday to do something similar! Will you be running circulation pumps in the stream area during walleye spawn to keep the water moving, or relying on the spring rains to keep that water moving?

That sounds like a fun project, esshup!

Is there that much actual streamflow through the property? Or are they going to run a re-circulation system to bring the water back "uphill" to the 3/4 acre pond?

If there is that much streamflow, then is the pond owner just going to manage around the species episodically introduced by the native stream?

That is awesome…I am interested to hear how that progresses. We started a walleye pond last year…just one though, and only about 1 acre. And we added a 100+ ft aquascapes waterfall that will drop about 30’ this year to create moving water to entice walleye to spawn in the inflow. We’re dealing with a water leak right now, and working with TJ on strategies, trying to get a consistent water level to feed our intake bay to prime the pump. Lots of challenges, but we’re getting closer. This was my first look at our walleye after stocking them a year ago. If you’re interested in following our project, take a peek. It’s no kayak course though, that will be sweet!

Walleye are EVERYWHERE in the Pond - How Big Will Walleye Grow in the First Year of a Pond?

The stream flow will be strictly via electric water pumps. The 2 ponds will be on the same level so pumping water into one will cause it to eventually flow to the larger pond.
