????? what am I missing - beavers ?
Posted By: esshup Re: Dam beavers ate my dock - 10/06/15 07:56 PM
Me thinks someone is trying to pull a fast one. wink

Unless I'm mistaken, that looks like cypress knees and rot under a missing board in the dock.

You dont know a beaver nest when you see one do you lol.

I have not seen a beaver eat a board. Not saying they don't just that I have not seen that happen. All our beaver nests have sticks and chewed material around them ( knees would have been chewed). Are those chewed sticks in the nest ?

Did the beaver eat/take the board off?

Esshup is correct that is rout under the deck boards. But that is a beaver nest. They no longer live there ask me how I know lol. There were 2 living in it a few months back. They eat the cedar stays off my yard fence to build it or had the cedar for desert.

I have found that beaver dislike like lead and steel as much as I dislike them !

laugh

Nope! Too bad you didn't get a picture of the eggs in it. wink grin

Luckily I don't have beavers at my place. The only thing that I've seen is muskrats, and they are treated with extreme prejudice.

The beavers had to be pretty desperate to chew cedar (I think). Around here they won't touch the stuff.

The love cedar here and a lot more varieties as well.

We offically have a new nester. I was going to start hunting deer this morning as I sit at my kitchen table early viewing the 3 food plots along the tree line when my wife says look another beaver. Looks like I'm hunting 2 critters now. The soga continues......

I have a 3 acre pond above full of willows. If they would just go and live there and feast upon the trees we could all live in harmony.

Update. Varment has chosen to live in the 3 acre willow pond above so we are all living in harmony for now lol.....

The new tenants have done a great job managing the pond. They have cleared out more willows so far than a 55 gallon drum of klearshore will lol...

Awesome! I hope their young don't decide to move to your other pond!

They have a trail cut into the Dam. They are already moving back an forth between the ponds daily. I have seen no signs of them foraging on the wanted trees and fence yet. I assume when the willows are ate up that might change and so will my attitude lol. But they still have a lot of willows to fatten on. Our front pond stayed low and dry so long the willows completely over took the pond bottom in the shallow area. Unfortunately it rained and filled up before I acted and the chemical I have been using want work on trees that are submerged.

Well trying to live harmoniously with the varmint's hasn't worked out. Looks like I will have to hire a backhoe to clean up this mess. They decided for themselves that the pond needed to be deeper so they dammed up my spill pipe. Looks like plan B will be in order I tried to be a nice guy.

There weren't any Dove this season so I had to entertain my guest. Let me just say I took Ewest advise after more than a 1000 rounds of .223 and about 650 rounds of buck shot from multiple directions in less than 20 minutes the problem no longer exist. Its a holy nest now amen. May the fruitful waters flow once more.
