Hello everyone, I am trying to grow a giant pumpkin this year. just for fun. In Oklahoma the record is only 880 lbs. So it is not really good pumpkin growing area. but still I'm going to try.

I know this is a fish forum, so if anyone has lots of experience we can maybe private chat about it.

Hey Jake,

I grew a big "regular orange " pumpkin when I was a kid. 42 pounds. Only thing I remember is only 1 vine to the hill and remove all but one pumpkin from that vine.

Good luck and hope to see you posting a pic of a giant this fall!

Yes and don't brush or touch it when it is white and growing. Keep her well watered and feed her.

I personally like plant products 7-11-27 mixed 50/50 with calcium nitrate with an EC of about 12. Good seed and this thing will grow.

Cheers Don.

As a kid I planted some pumpkin seeds in our backyard at the former Ft. Devens, Massachusetts. As soon as the blooms apeared the entire plants died.

I think I figured out why years later. Turns out the soil around the foundations of our quarters were sprayed with an insecticide so bad the soil was layer removed after being designated as a Superfund site! So I lived on a superfund site for over 3 years!

And Texas is 657, I guess everthing is not bigger in Texas haha. But yeah Dave you should be able to knock that out in no time!
Don't get me wrong 880 is a BIG pumpkin but the world record is 2323 or something close, and in WI, MI, PA, CA etc you have to hit 1700 to get on the radar it seems.
I would never have thought it.

The record pumpkins aren't grown 'naturally' They are fed with a stem sucking an unending supply of high potency liquid nutrients (in the old days milk).

They should have a category for organic grown pumpkins and see what the real response would be. (that would be kind of like having a makeup free, silicone-free beauty pageant.)

I remember that now that you mentioned it. Dig a depression under the vine, put a bowl of milk in it, slit the underside of the vine and connect the bowl to the vine with cotton cord. Right?

I think the record pumpkins today are those pink colored squash, not the traditional orange pumpkins we knew when we were kids.
