Our local weather folks are really talking up the big storm that's going to hit you folks in the N.E. part of the country. It's going to be in the 70s around here today and for Kansas in January that's big news for us...stay safe.

I saw that on the news. The mayor of New York said it could be one of the biggest, if not the biggest, to ever hit there. The few days of subzero we had don't seem so bad now!

I've got clear water on the big pond today...I doubt it'll stay that way but I'm sure glad I'm Midwest vs northeast. You guys and gals up that way stay safe!

I saw a weather forecast that said this Winter is going to be talked about for a long time. This may just be the start. Don't let your propane tanks get low. Remember last year?

So far this winter is much better for the midwest than last year. I haven't used 250 gallons of propane yet this year and last winter I had used almost 500 gallons by now. Not to mention the price difference.

Feeling for those on the east coast, stay safe and wait this out.

They haven't had a significant storm out there all winter. This could be being exaggerated by the media. News has been slow lately. I'm already hearing from one person that the storm has moved 90 miles east and he is only going to get 3 to 5 inches in central Mass when he was supposed to get a couple of feet.

I sometimes wonder the same thing about oil speculators.

Naah they're only interested in making money (if you're referring to the investors and stock brokers) and looks like they lost their shirt when prices crashed. Just wish the U.S. and Canadian workers and businesses in the field didn't have to pay the price.

Now how did we get from snow to oil again? grin

Only about 12" of snow here in NYC
about 30 miles east of me on long island got about 24"
and my property upstate NY only got 5"
You never know with these coastal storms
It could have been much worse

Yeah, money was my line of reasoning. It seems that all it takes for gas prices to increase is the mere threat of a hurricane, or the possibility of mideast turmoil. I think the speculators are glued to the world news just looking for the merest, most remote possibility of something happening in order to begin manipulating the market.

In WNY, the main part of the Blizzard was way downstate, we got about 3" from some feature called the deformation zone.

Our winter has been quite cold, but not as cold as last year. However we have had much less snow then last year, which has left thinks looking rather bleak until we got this "dusting".

Personally I love a good blizzard, it gives me an opportunity to enjoy the real fury of nature. A nice stroll in a pure whiteout with snow infiltrating your underpants is always invigorating.

Very true. What I find scary is how sensitive the stock market is and that they have computer software that automatically reacts faster than any human. My dad said he saw, I think it was on 60 minutes, where there was a whole room of computers on wallstreet with no human in site. Reminds me of the software some people use on Ebay where you can't sucessfully bid against them.

Well back to oil prices...

An interesting read on why prices are so low:
