So, I walk out to the tree and shrub nursery to see how the new seedlings are comin' along, and I see this really small hummingbird workin' the red clover that has popped up...but it isn't a hummingbird...or at least I don't think so. It has no fear of me and let's me walk right up to it. Damn, this is really a new one for me, so I run and get the cam to shoot a vid.
Well, I just met my first White-lined Sphinx Hummingbird Moth. I think the neatest part is the length of it's probascis. It pokes and probes the flower as it works around the perimeter, then jets off to work the next flower. Way cool.

Cool! And for a Moth to be out during the day.

I've also seen Cecropia and Luna Moths around here - but at night.

They're fairly common here in the east. They don't seem to like the hummingbird feeders we have out though. They just stick to the flowers.

I've seen them before in W.PA. Very cool looking thing...

We see them every once in while around here, they are pretty cool.

Wow, I've never seen one either. It is really pretty remarkable that two organisms from entirely different kingdoms can evolve with such similarly unique traits.
