I am new enough to not know the source of pirate appreciation here, but have been around long enough to see grown men find their most basic level of manliness when the issue of pirates arises. So, for those inner pirates in all, I offer the following that I found while on vacation in SC as I was passing a tourist trap shop:

And this one, even more relevant to PB:

A most earnest, "Arrghhhhh" to ye scallywags!

Oh man! You started it now!

I guess you were still too unintiated last September 19 (and several September 19ths before that) to realize appreciate believe what happens here on that day.

I am as clueless now as I was back then, my friend! But as Bill Murray and Harold Ramis told the Army recruiter in Stripes, "I'm willing to learn!"

 Quote:
When captain Jonas Psalter
sailed his ship to sea
Anne Bonny kept him company

The skull and crossbones flew
above the ocean blue
The captain's men were a pirate's crew

The ships they sought to take
were of the Spanish main
A gift from Ferdinand of Spain

And though you rob and kill to find your dream
your crimes are hardly what they seem

Tortuga held the treasure of a thousand kings
so Jonas planned to steal everything

Two hundred men stood guard
Around the fortune nest
But Psalter's steel slew all the rest

And when the smoke had cleared
and bloody bodies lay
Everyone could hear the minstrel play

(Woo woo) Jonas Psalter
you've captured every prize
there is to dream of in one life

And so we wonder why
we found you in your bed.....

with that bullet in your head

Dwight will remember

Ha -- my menfolk are right there in the mix -- pirates, pirate movies, etc. Me, I just like Johnny Depp -- or Errol Flynn -- or . . . don't get me started on some of those rakish actors who portrayed swashbucklin' pirates!

It really got a bad start here: Managing for Global Warming.

Talk about hijacking a thread.

Perhaps the return of temps to more traditional levels? That, per Bruce's graph, would signify the return of the pirate population!
Posted By: catmandoo Re: Pirate Flags - 02/25/10 01:27 AM
. . . and, I think this exemplifies why discussions of Global Warming on the forum is now prohibited, and hijacking is discouraged!

Although I don't see that anyone can honestly claim that thread was hijacked - it began and ended on the world's population of pirates!

I'm afraid both are correct. I understand that it could be due to a bunch of Norsks trying to return to their Viking heritage. They are temporarily leaving Norge looking for excitement and warmer climates.

Norway Hampered by Labor Shortage

A bunch of modern day Vikings were recently spotted trying to pillage a sand castle and plunder the surrounding sea shells on a beach in Southern Florida.

I enjoyed reading Øystein Bogen's blog "Catch and Release" story about "machine guns aren't generally needed for fishing."
