I place these spawning areas in opposite corners of the pond I took the back hoe and flated out the corner and dug a ditch at the back and added pine logs to act as a bulk head. The picture does not show it but I added 2 larger logs about 10' long to run along each side of the gravel bed. in this corner I put just pea gravel with crushed rock (crushed rock like on a rail road bed) later around the out sides and the end to prevent it from getting washed out until the pond filled up, which it has now as u can see from the bottom picture. The other corner I put a crushed rock base and then put the pea gravel on top. They are roughly a 10x12 or 12x12 space. I know bass dont like to be in site of each other when spawning but hoping the bigger fish will you use it and i know the CNBG will invade them! Please let me know what ya think and ideas to make it better or add.

It looks good to me, but I wonder if your gravel will migrate down? I didn't see anything holding it in place, or did I miss that?

I have larger rock, like crushed granite in front and around it I would say ping pong ball size pieces so im hoping that will hold the gravel up or at the worst it will be sloped instead of flat. Guess the fish will tell me this spring and summer if they like it

I agree with your concerns with crowding and that might only make 2 nests. I'm not sure that one fish would let another nest close enough for there to be even two nests per structure.

sell I came up with a idea to place logs on the west side of the pond about 6' to 8' apart and 2 high running from the bank pointing into the middle and make about 5 or 6 sections like that and scatter gravel and peddles in each section to provide more private spawning areas. What do ya think?

You can take a front end loader and just dump piles. Unless the rock is too big the fish will spread out.

Don't be surprised if your fish do not use the beds the first year. I did something similar to yours and thought my work was for nauht as the fish did not use the area and it grew up to thick FA the first year. But they have used it every year since. Different spring conditions the fish may use different areas. I noticed this year a new area of beds in shallow along the edge of a deep drop off I had never known there to be beds.

So the fish suit themselves when it comes to beds.

My plan on a 1.3 acre lake is to dump 3.5 gal of pea gravel in each of 10 places. I really like what you have done better but I have yet to consult the fish.
We will see in time, my CNBG spawned last spring and this one but never saw one bed! havent figured out yet where they have been spawning, hoping next spring will provide me with answers, and I am excited to see where the bass spawn since this will be there very first!
