Hey guys what are some easy and cheap ways to measure your water temp if your dont have a boat or a depth finder? Also do you just measure the top of the water surface or would you find a way to measure it say 5-6ft down?

I use a non-floating pool thermometer and have it tied to my dock. I usually just measure surface temps but could drop it deeper if I wanted to.

Hey thanks for the tip. We dont have a dock at the pond. Think I could tie it to my pole and fling it out there?

Cheap pool thermometers do just fine as shorty said. Surface temperatures are difficult to accurately get because the first several inches can vary greatly so, I take "surface" temps at 6 inches, then take a deeper reading at 18", then the bottom. That will tell you most of what you need to know. I have a dock which makes taking readings really easy. In the absence of a dock...a heavy fishing pole and big bobber would suffice. Just don't get it hung up or you'll lose your $5 investment. Lol
