I live in south Florida and have never seen BNM, I'm not sure what SFM is, we have a type of shad living in our canal system, and the one fresh water bait shop I know sells some type of shiner that when live is bass candy but usually die within a couple minutes of hitting the warm water. My experience may be different than central/northern Florida though.

I think Bob-O means SFS (spotfin shiner) not SFM.
