I would like some interesting ideas on how to transfer FHM's from a 3 acre forage pond to an adjacent 15 acre pond stocked with LMB, CC and BG. I would like to do this by netting. No cutting the dam...

Thanks

Retry on the pic...
Hey Bones...nice problem to have - a 3 acre forage pond? Suh-weet!

Collection of FHM

1. Draining low and seining
2. Draining low to deepest part of pond and having a buddy using an backpack electroshocker doo-dad to stun and you stand on shore with rubber boots and net to scoop

Number 1 was pretty obvious - you probably considered that already.

Number 2 is actually a fish collection experiment I want to try this year on my ponds...AND it's an opportunity to breathe life into the classic phrase; "electroshocker doo-dad".

Good luck - I'm eager to hear others' ideas on this.

I have seined, cast-netted and trapped. (I leave the shocking for Todd O.) When water warms and they are REAL active, turn off feeder for a few days and set 3-4 traps out. They need to be checked every few hours and moved at least every other day. Slow but can be enjoyable. I keep several 5 gallon buckets with lids handy to run them to other ponds. Igloo works also if you don't have alot of bumps in the road.
I'm just not into boots and mud anymore...but I am blessed with a son and s-in-l.
You have a beautiful place!
edit pellets and bread (flour tortillas squid etc...) in ladies hosiery worked. Be careful where you shop in a small town though.
Part of the fun is seeing things you didn't know you had.

I second the traps. FHM are realy suckers for traps.

If you don't have a lot of obstructions seining would be the most efficient way of collecting them. Large 20' plus seines will make quick work of collecting them.
