Pond Boss
My pond has a healthy population of water lilies and bladderwort. My plan is to have the pond treated with chemicals next month or as soon as I see new growth on the lilies and bladderwort. I also plan on stocking some triploid grass carp around the same time. My wife and I have discussed the finances and we are going to be able to buy 20 10 inch grass carp. We plan on buying them from KEO Fish Farms near Little Rock, Arkansas. Good place? We got a quote for $4.50 per 10 inch grass carp.

I am not sure what chemicals they are going to use but I know its not going to be SONAR because of how expensive it is.

Any advice guys?
That's a great price. Up here the price is much higher and we pay more to have them delivered than the actual price of the fish. Our state mandates they are planted by the supplier hence the high cost.

Since blatterwort is high on the Grass Carp's preference list sounds like you are good to go as long as the herbicide is not toxic to your grass carp.
Cecil cheap b/c they are diploids. Yes KEO has great fish going there next week to get fish to bring back to GA.
Cecil, should I stock the carp before or after the treatment?
Greg, are you sure?

ericdc, I don't remember the size of your pond, but I want to say it was under an acre?

If so, I think (20) grass carp is way too many.
Scratch that. Pond is 4.5 acres right? That's a good number I think. Not too many.
Eric sure about what? Yes that is the same KEo. They are best source of HSB for me.
they say they offer triploids, you say diploids?

It all depends on the herbicide you use and it's effect on grass carp. Read the label? I do know they are sensitive to copper products.
Keo buys many of their triploids from JM Malone's fish farm out of Lonoke. Greg, we, too, buy all of our HSB from Keo. They're the only farm I trust that handles the HSB properly. It's a 5.5 hour drive, one way, for us. How long is it for you, Greg? We just made the trip to Malone's Thursday for a load. Wish there was an autopilot to get us there and back!

I'll call the guy who is going to treat the pond and find out.
