This is a personal question, you're not obligated to reply. Just how many ponds do you have? Will your land support more? If so, how many do you see in the future? I'm only asking this because I have 2, feel I'm falling into the obsession of wanting many. Short of the hatcheries, I think Meadowlark led the way with 4 + a micro, just where is our missing friend? I seem to recall you had several as well...I know Lusk does, but I would like to know other PB members totals...I think this is addictive.

I have seven, plus a micro. I call the 1.25 acre pond my "big pond". The other, all together are about 1 acre.

My land will definitely support more. I could dam up my creek, and I'd have a 50 acre body of water, but the regulations, and sharing with my neighbors might be more hassle than it's worth.

Not true! I can quit whenever I want.

2 ponds, 3rd pond placed mentally on property, eyeing more land ...

Ahhh, more and more and more ponds.

I use to think that I wanted to expand my 3 acre pond to about 5 acres. Topography is right for it, I have plenty of low lying land to make it happen. My good buddy DIED could come over and grab a handfull of dirt, squeeze it in his fist, give it a sniff, taste a sample and tell me if it can hold water (ok he probably has a more scientic method than that but this fits into my story better, sort of adds a little magic don't ya think?).

But then a funny thing happened. We visited Lusk Lodge 2. Now I see the beauty of multiple smaller ponds. You can have one mix of fish in one pond and a completely different mix of fish in another. Hmmmm, my 3 acre pond has LMB, BG, RES and the much revered and loved GSF. But a second pond, would it be Sacramento Perch (I've been researching Sacramento Perch lately and the more I read about them the more I like them) and Channel Cat (ever since I caught that CC at Lusk's I now have Channel Cat envy)? How about some Rainbow trout? I really like the layout of the two adjoing ponds that Bob has. You can stand on the dam that is between the two ponds and fish one for a while and the merely turn around and fish the other. What a great concept! Bored of fishing for LMB and assorted sunfish? Then turn around and sail the line in the other direction and try your luck at Sacramento Perch or Channel cats. Sure gets the brain fluid flowing don't it?

But building the house must come before a second pond so for now it's just dreaming and scheming - which fortunately for me I happen to excel at.

four. One approximately 3/4 acre pond on the front and the lowest part of the property for male only gills and female only yellow perch along with cages. We also use it for swimming.

One behind the house that gets well water a few months of the year used for trout. One for perch production and one for bluegill production.

Is there an existing thread that relates different pond sizes to different fish combinations? I'm looking for detail on the smaller ponds, less than an acre.
