Hi All,

I'll be lining my sandy pond with clay later this year or next. No rollers in the area but I have a 3/8" thick 24" round pipe I was going to have made into a sheepsfoot roller.

Looking for advice on what to use for feet, how to stagger them and also the height/width of the feet.

It'll be about 6.5ft long filled with water so hoping that is enough weight to compact.

Let me know what you think.

Thank you

Mine is about 5' wide with a 4' diameter, and I was told it is filled with used oil (to prevent freezing and rust). I think it is part of what was once a 10' wide double gang roller. The spikes are about 1.5" in diameter and maybe 6" long with a small "foot" on each. I replaced a couple missing spikes with solid round stock with no "foot". I pull it with a small dozer since it's too much for my 38hp compact tractor. I'll try and remember to take a picture and post it.
I would think that the weight per square inch for the each row of feet should be similar to RAHs. Each foot would deliver equivalent compression in that way. If we know weight of RAHs roller and the area of feet in 1 row then that part could be solved. The next part would be design the layout of feet. I can tell you that the size of foot must be about 1/4 the size (cross sectional area) of RAHs in order to maintain the same density. This may mean you would need to make more passes with the one you are designing (2' diameter) than with one like RAHs (4' diameter)
