My pond has looked like coffee with milk for the last 2 years. Visibility finally got to 7 inches. It is a little over 1/4 surface acres and avg depth about 8 ft.. I finally treated it with 484 lbs of alum and 150 lbs of hydrated lime. Visibility went to 41 inches after 24 hours. After a couple weeks and renewed bloom visibility is 24 inches and fish seem happy.

My question is; is there any concern about dogs drinking the water or my grand kids swimming in it? My dog has been a frequent ( every hour or so when it is hot) swimmer and drinker. However she has stopped this since i treated the water. I have swam in it several times since the treatment with no negative effects noticed. We have a family reunion later this week and I'm worried if I need to take precautions??

Any insight about this would be appreciated.

No problem with those 2 after 2 weeks under the conditions you noted.
Alum is used in food and pickling.

Thanks Eric and Cecil for the reassuring replies.

I guess I have a tendency to worry over unnecessary things.
That's not worry, That's heightened awareness, which is good.

I appreciate the comment Instar.

My pond looks the best it's looked in several years and I wouldn't have been concerned except I reread the MSDS's and as per typical government requirements they tend to scare the bejeezes out of you.
