Since I've treated Mr. H's small pond for watermeal it is dying off steadily. It had been completely covering the surface for almost a year and I assume that it crowded out any other plants. It seems like a good opportunity to introduce desirable plants and I could use some suggestions.

The pond

The water level has come up about a foot with one good rain and is now about 4 feet below full. Should I plant the exposed bottom with something? Should I kill the weeds that are there now?
What no "after" photos?????

Once I get my Elodea under control I am going to plant some Lilly plants. I like the way they look and if you use one of the non-invasive species they are relatively easy to control. If I recall WM like shade so I think this might be an option for you as well. The important part of choosing a lily plant is to buy from a reputable dealer to ensure that you are getting the correct species. There was a good thread on PB a long while back about lily species. I've been meaning to search for it.

I'm certainly no expert so wait for more informed opinions before you fill the pond with plants based upon a mere bean counter's suggestion though. \:\)

Here's one post about beneficial plants in a pond. In Mike Robinson's second post on this thread he mentions several plants in addition the the lily he mentioned in his first post in this thread...

Thanks ewest. I hate to start asking questions before I've done much research, but I'm so busy now it's tough to find time. I appreciate the "leg up".

jhp, I can't imagine why you would expect me to post a photo.
Ewest, great links!

GW, I think that my eternal sense of optimism kicked in and caused me to hope that one day, in the not too distant future, that you would post at least one photo on this board. \:D

It's been less than a month since I treated with Sonar AS. These pics show the progress:

There jhap, happy now?
JHAP is happy. (As a matter of fact some would say a little too happy).

There is a pond nearby that I could collect some lily pads from. Would it work if I just put some individual plants and soil in 5 gal. buckets and submerged them?
