Has anyone ever tried to use a trash or semi-trash pump to pump out floating FA?

I tried to seine out FA but the bottom of my pond is slippery clay that makes it difficult to get out of pond with the seine net.

Use a rake, works well and is easy it's my choice. Since you're in MS Tilapia might be a great option for you next year to help manage FA if they are legal there.

Rake wasn't feasible for me I had over an acre of surface FA..

BGK, I'll look up the thread.

TJ, are you talking about a regular yard rake or one of those pond rakes? I did a little research on tilapia in Miss and it seems they are considered "exotic" and you need a permit.

DJ I use plastic leaf rakes, very simple and crude, but very effective, light, and manuverable. I don't get much FA, except in the Spring, and it's easily removed from the margins of the pond with a plastic rake.

If you have continually bad FA get some beneficial aquatic vegetation going...many choices discussed on the forum. Eric West also is from MS and can guide you on his favorite beneficial cultivars. Presence of vegetation will help tie up your nutrient loads, leaving less for FA to rely upon.

If neither works, consider getting a Tilapia permit if FA is really impacting your pond.

If you can get submerged weeds to establish in your pond, the water will be clearer, which might increase weed growth into deeper water.

One pond that we've stocked Tilapia in has kept a visibility of 16"-18" due to the bloom. I have to hit a patch of Sago Pondweed that is about 10' x 20' in the spring, and that's the extent of the weed control. FA is nonexistant. The fish in that pond are growing by leaps and bounds. BG went from stunted 2"-3" to 6"-7", LMB stocked at 5"-6" are 10"-12". All in the span of 10 months. The fish are fed Purina AM600 at the rate of 100#/month too. The pond is .8 ac.
