Lost a bunch of 2" and smaller bluegill, hate that!! Also had a couple of nice bass floating and 1 large bluegill....ours is a 3 acre community lake, pyramid shaped with 2 long canals. I believe our one surface fountain isn't cutting it!

Where to start? Sue Cruz?

Hey Stan Sue would be a good start for sure! And I think your right. A surface fountain on a 3 acre pond I bet is not doing to much. How deep is that pond do you know? What's the average depth? Sue will ask you these type questions and more when you get hold of her. So if you can have a few answers ready for her it will be a big help to her when you start asking questions. Sorry about your fish kill. Oh and hey welcome to the PBF.

Examples.

1. How deep is the pond.
2. Average Depth of pond.
3. How old is the pond.
4. Do you have some pics of the pond.
5. How wide are these 2 canals.

Pond is no more than 8' deep.....and I mean just off the bank there's a good slope (we have no vegetation at all).

Avg depth is probably 7'

Lake was years ago a 50 acre bass fishing lake, now built up around the remaining 3 acres.

One canal is maybe 25' wide, the other (where the lake overflows to maintain level) is maybe 20'

Lots of photos. We drained 80% and cleaned the lake in 2001 and at that time we all bulkheaded with concrete bags to keep ducks from tearing up the shoreline. I was busting bass just last Thursday.

I would pull a water sample if I was you. I had this happen to me over 10 years back on a pond near a surface road. Turned out the water authority had scaled the water lines one night a 1/4 mile away (uphill from the pond) and the run off had made it into the pond. We pulled a water sample and the chlorine is what led to me finding out what really had happened. I had first chalked it up to a kill off and had took the sample anyway. Good thing I did.

That's a good idea

See if anybody on the surrounding shoreline had any grass treated in any way. Maybe something was used near the water that shouldn't have been used.........
