Hi I have a half acre pond 8 feet deep and wanting to add aerator to it and found a Vevor 3/4 hp at a reasonable price and even cheaper than the 1/2 hp model, only thing is can you over aerate an pond , or have anyone ever used this setup before

If your pond doesn't require a bunch of diffusers due to an irregular shape, you can aerate a half acre pond with a 1/3 hp compressor.

It needs to be sized so the amount of bubbles bring at least 120% of the pond water to the surface of the pond every 24 hours. That's with it running 24/7 or only running for a few hours a day. In this instance, size does matter.

You normally will not over aerate a 1/2 pond with that type & model compressor. In the 1/2 ac use two, three or four diffusers. Using two, three or four diffusers on one head will respectively move more water per hour which means turning the pond over faster and not needing to run the diffuser as long each day. 4 heads will turnover the pond twice as fast as a two head model. That compressor with 4.7cfm should operate up to a 5 disk or tube diffuser/s.

I prefer 5/8" ID airline; 3/8 causes excess backpressure for the pump. I would just buy the pump and build your own diffuser using 3 or 4 heads. Move more water faster so pump lasts a lot longer before a rebuild or motor quits.
Be aware the pump will need rebuilding and I don't see rebuild kits; are they available. What do you do when it needs rebuilding? Try and find the brand name of the pump. Is it a china pump?

I control what hours my aeration runs with a 24 hour timer that costs about $25. They are available in 120 v or 240 v (what I have) and last about 5 years IME.

I'm sure if you have a 10 year old to show how, a smart phone based system could be used.

I have a Vevor setup in the 1/2hp for my pond. Bought it late summer and used it till freeze up. Runs good, no issues. The only issue I have is I was running it off a generator as the pond is a fair bit from the house or any power. Gotta figure out how to run it come spring for the long term. I got my setup for $250 including shipping. I figured for that cost I paid for the airline and diffuser and got the pump for free. Even it it dies before it should I feel I am ahead.

How far is the pond from grid electricity?

Its about 200 yards giver or take. The plan was to run power out there until I priced out the wire. $9500 for copper and $5000 for aluminum. Might end up trenching air line instead however I'm not sure my wife will be keen on the sound of the compressor in the house. Looked at a solar system, was thinking I wanted to go that way, was quoted over $15000.. Soooo, I have winter to rethink things. Ideas?

Go with a small Vertex unit. It is in a powdercoated aluminum box that sits outside. Look at the db chart, the small cabinet on the left is what you'd need. db on the left side of the chart. Without is without the optional sound deadening kit, with is with it.... It's installed at the factory. We are a dealer for them.

Not trying to stop you from burying airline instead of electric (I have both), but if I read this correctly you could buy 200 yards of direct burial, 3 strand plus ground, 4 gauge for about $3600: Link. (And that's the first place I looked.)

I run 240 VAC, 50A a little over 150 yards through 6 gauge copper. This supplies plenty of juice for a 240 vac compressor. (I would want to go 4 gauge for a 200 yard run.)

Note: from that compressor location at pond #1, I run air through 1" black plastic water pipe about 220 yards to pond #2.

A customer has a shed with electric in it that is 220 yards from one pond and 340 yards from another. I had a landscape company that has a slitting machine (large vibrating knife) that they use to pull underground sprinkler line to do underground sprinklers come in and put the airline in the ground. They can lay that 1" that Theo used or even larger 1 1/4" line in the ground as fast as the operator can walk. Both of those ponds are fed by one 1/4 hp rotary vane compressor. The compressor is inside the shed without a cabinet around it, but it has a fan built into the compressor and the shed doesn't have much in it, so the compressor doesn't run that hot like it would in a smaller enclosure. The smaller enclosures have a fan that sucks outside air through the cabinet to cool the compressor. Heat will kill a compressor faster than anything else.

New pond guy here, and I am trying to learn about aeration systems. The Vevor system in the O.P. is ~$300. A local pond company quoted me a Vertex system (1/3 HP, 2.5 CFM) for $3000, which includes a cabinet. What gives? How can there be an order of magnitude price difference? I assume the Vevor is all Chinese stuff, but I don't see any complaints in the reviews. What does the big-name brand offer to warrant the additional costs?

I have been running a Vertex system for 15 years, 8 to 16 hours a day in season. I keep a cooling fan (which sucks air from outside of the shed holding the compressor) blowing directly on the compressor while the system is running. No problems so far with zero maintenance (yeah, that's probably wrong).

The difference is support, parts availability, cabinet, warranty, etc., etc. What you aren't getting with the Vevor is bigger weighted air line, distribution valves, cooling fans, cabinet, etc., etc. You are also getting the support from the person that sells it to you. Call Vevor and ask them about spare parts and filters for it.
