We have a 5-year-old pond, about 14,000 SF, 19' at the deepest. We're having a bore run out to the dock, which is about 275' from the house, running 220 VAC to a subpanel. The aerator will sit next to the panel, and pending the collective wisdom, I'm about ready to order a Matala LP1 kit (definitely open to advice here, though). We'll also have a couple of 110 VAC spurs run out from the subpanel to GFIs, and a couple of GFIs on the dock. The deepest point of the pond is probably 20' off the dock., and thus 25' from the compressor. I'm not presuming any particular benefit from the 220 VAC compressor (if there's a significant delay in getting the 220, I might just go with the 110), and of course the service conduit will go into the subpanel, and all will be done by an electrician.

Do I seem to be missing anything, and is there any other compressor I should study up on?

Thanks much,

Welcome to the forums Rick,

I am not seeing any quick info on Matala's site for the "LP1", so it's hard to advise on the system. You should be looking at about a 1/4 HP pump and at least 2 diffusers, but more like 3 (depending) for your 1/3 acre pond. Post the specs of the system for a better response from the other PB members.

As far as 220 vs 110...go with 220 if you can. It will be a bit more efficient and cheaper to run the pump and, as you know, you will be able to get 110 from that for other items.

For that pond depth, if you want to have the compressor live for more than a year go with a rocking piston design on the compressor.
