I just got the green light on what's going to be a really, really neat project. A 5 ac 20'ish deep "pond" tied to a 3/4 acre pond with a stream that is large enough to allow people to kayak from one pond to the other, and also have WE spawning habitat in the stream for WE to reproduce in the Spring. In the design/planning stages now, dirt work is supposed to begin in 2024.
The 3/4 ac pond is existing on the property now. Preliminary elevations show 18" height difference between the two ponds.
Is there that much actual streamflow through the property? Or are they going to run a re-circulation system to bring the water back "uphill" to the 3/4 acre pond?
If there is that much streamflow, then is the pond owner just going to manage around the species episodically introduced by the native stream?
The stream flow will be strictly via electric water pumps. The 2 ponds will be on the same level so pumping water into one will cause it to eventually flow to the larger pond.
Hey, thanks for sharing! The YouTube series on pond ownership sounds intriguing. I've always been curious about that topic. Have you considered using YouTube automation to make sure you catch all the new episodes? It's a nifty way to stay updated without missing a beat.
