My dad got a medal for a night bombing mission during the Korean War, but he was quite reluctant to talk about it. The most I could get him to say was that they often looked for places with lots of flak & anti-aircraft fire, because they figured the Norks were defending something valuable, like a bridge. When I asked why they deliberately put themselves in the riskiest part of the sky, he just smiled a little and said, "We were young."
