Pond Boss Forums Thread Like Summary - Cormorants

Yesterday I visited my pond and counted 21 cormorants on it. There numbers have been slowly building up from a dozen two weeks ago. This is all on a pond that is slightly less than two acres now. I know I'm not allowed to shoot these guys but is it legal to put in scare controls to harass them? I've seen some laser systems and also some sound devices. Not sure if the neighbors will be too happy about the sound devices but I'm not sure if I will have any bluegill left by the end of this winter.

Speaking of the blue gill, I put in 1000 this year and have been feeding them, bass are supposed to go in next spring. Should I stock more bluegill at the time I stock the bass now?

I heard that one can eat a pound of fish per day. 1,000 bluegill that are 4.5"-5.5" in length weigh between 60-90 pounds. 20 birds in 5 days can eat 100# of fish.........
If you are on the property daily, and had a drone, I sure would be flying the drone over the pond daily to check the vegetation growth.........

Scare them. They are afraid of high brass #4.

Put TPosts along the sides about 20 ft apart. Then strung cord from post to post. Haven’t had a problem since .

That is exactly correct....they almost always circle back.

They do that to gain altitude probably wet feathers…. I know they have very keen sight, can’t hardly sneak up on them
