You may want to talk to the county forester for advice on what would grow well based on the soil at your pond. Planting trees that can not do well in a particular area is a very frustrating effort. If there are few pines in your area there is probably a reason. Think a lot and long term about what you want because planting trees is a multi-generation change. FWIW we are glad to have lots of trees around our ponds and have no problems with them , but we have plenty of water.
