I am considering stocking tilapia to control filamentous algae and am wondering if I should fence off some areas to let them get established before letting them be exposed to LMB.

Very late to stock them this year. They die from cold water temps. Your idea is good if you are stocking small ones into an existing pond with LMB.

I won't stock until next spring. I am just trying to get ready if I should need to fence off a cove or two.

The problem with fencing off an area is being absoutely sure that no LMB are fenced in.
Will those things eat slick and slimy FA?
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Yes, making sure there are no LMB in the fence will be an important step. Everyone says they will eat FA. I sure hope so as that is the main reason I am planning on stocking them.

A blocking net will work better than trying to build a fence.
