I will be stocking my 1-1/2 acre pond with bass very soon. I hate to present the question...but which type should I stock for this size pond in south Louisiana??? Northern, Florida or F-1's, I have done several searches and it looks like F-1's are prefered. But what are the pros and cons of the others. I will be happy if sometime in the future I could catch a 6-8 lb bass from my pond. I don't mean to open a can of worms, but I have already ordered Floridas and don't want this to be a mistake I regret down the road...

Florida's and Northern�s both have pros and cons. The Florida strain grows faster than the Northern strain, but the Florida strain is less aggressive and is hard to catch on artificial baits. Conversely, the northern strain is more aggressive but doesn�t grow as fast. F1 bass combine the good qualities of its parents. They grow fast, I believe faster than pure Florida strain bass, and are as aggressive as the Northern strain.
I believe most people recommend I mix of all three strains. The ratio I found was 25% Florida, 45% Northern, and 30% F1.

E-man, thanks for the threads, guess I did not search far enough back...months vs. years, I think I'll go with the mix of all three in the stated % above. Don't think I'm ready for the HSB program yet. One of my brother's friends stocked them and was not happy....but I have zero details on that so who knows??? I think I'm really just ready to see something attack the GSF that came from nowhere.

Florida strain bass are the bass that produce the record size fish.

It depends on which record you mean. Most believe that the world record LMB was an intergrade ( cross like an F-1) but know one is sure. Most of the more recent large LMB are Florida strain females. Recall a recent post where I pointed out the fisheries scientists tell us that while fla females are big fla males are small (when compared to northern males). The population is half male and female. The question is what do you want. A few big females and lots of small males or a smaller but more balanced sized population of northerns , F-1s and a couple of flas. This of course is dependant on your location and how each strain will do there. Fla LMB up north don't work well if at all and northerns in south Fla likewise.

The hatchery I am buying from does not have F-1's, I have ordered 100 northerns and 50 Floridas...will this work??? I know I'll have to wait for the F-1's..hopefully they'll kick in about the time the others wind down....I know they'll have a gazilion BG & GSF to eat....

In the 2in size they can be shipped overnight. You might try a couple more hatcheries. Usually Overton's has F-1s. Call Todd. http://www.overtonfisheries.com . What you asked will work over time but the first stocking of LMB is a key building block to your success.
