I grew up fishing in natural creeks, rivers, and ponds. Part of that experience involved chasing less than trophy sized fish around snag promoting structure and uncontrolled aquatic weed growth. Often we wouldn't catch anything at all. Fishing was tough back then AND WE LIKED IT!
I agree with you GW. At my place it's easy to snag a lure. Between the Elodea, some reeds, a few submerged trees and in several places trees from the shore that hang into the pond you have a lot of obstacles to fish around. It makes fishing more challenging and I think probably has some effect to reduce the hook shy situation.
