Pond Boss Forums INTRO Questions & Observations PBF speed

I'm not sure I'm ready to get my hopes up, but the forum sure is smoking today.

There was another software update this morning - hopefully it made a difference.

Sure would be nice to leave it where it is.

It seemed to have made a big difference here. I haven't had the patience to post much since the change until today. Speed has been pretty good but it does seem to be lagging some when I'm posting pictures. The speed was so good I renewed my subscription.

Pretty good here, too.

Got my fingers crossed.

Today was hot & cold, but mostly real hot.

There were occasional drag times, like around early afternoon EST.

Overall, it's much better and we should see more folks popping up, I think.

At 5:00 AM this morning, CNN was slower than death.

Pond Boss was loading in milliseconds.

I guess we all have slow days now and then.

But, things seem to be pretty fast in the hills of West Virginia tonight.

83 seconds to post a response, at 1230 PM EDST - not what I would expect to be a peak demand time.

Yep, a little bit ago it was dead in the water for me.

....but that last post took 0.0033 seconds. Very odd.

operating with DSL

Everything was going great here and then it went into slow motion. It took 28.602 seconds to bring up this thread.

Editing: However, it took only .044 seconds to submit. Curious

PB forum speed has been varying greatly for me. Some days it loads as fast as any forum and other days (yesterday) it took forever to load. I have been experimenting and noted the following (at least as it relates to my computer and connection): The new forum software does not like Zone Alarm. In order to post anything I must turn Zone Alarm completely off. This is even after I told Zone Alarm that Pond Boss was a safe site and to play nice. After having problems loading PB yesterday I then switched from Mozilla Firefox to Internet Explorer (which I personally despise but was desperate for a pond boss fix). The site ran better with IE - but was it just a coincidence - I don' know.

Response times have been very inconsistent for me but they are better now than they were. Something still needs to be tweaked IMHO.

What in the dickens is Zone Alarm?

Jeff, IE here and still way too slow, I agree on the fix (tweak) still timing out at 5 am so tossed in the mouse and went for coffee

So many of my intital attempts to even get onto the forum dont' work...most go no where.

I don't think it has anything to do with how many of us are logged on.

I fear we've still got problems.

And now, the speed is raging.

It's a firewall. Their freeware firewall is pretty popular. I enlisted Zone Alarm freeware firewall when I left dial-up behind and came on board with DSL. It has served me very well. I haven't noticed any conflicts between Z-A and the forum, but maybe cuz I only use the freeware. I still use IE as my browser; I'm still gettin' up the nerve and the time to pull the trigger on Firefox .

Brettski, you don't have to give up IE to try Firefox. I have both browsers and using Firefox hasn't effected my ability to use Explorer. I sometimes use both at the same time, usually when some website doesn't perform well with Firefox. I'm not a computer guy, but I don't think they effect each other.

Forum is so slow now that I'm afraid to even try to post this. Tried other sites and all were working well.

Evidently we still have significant issues.

I tried from 7 to 9pm at least 6 times and could not get on. Timed out each time.

My 16 year is hooking up a wireless router to wi-fi the web to a laptop we have ordered. Our DSL went belly up this afternoon during the process and as long as I was trying to access the PB Forum, I didn't notice.

I hate to nerd everyone out, but the connection speed to the forum is just as fast on a 28K modem dialup connection as it is on our T1. Once you get connected it better on the T1, but not as it should be.

Working with zero knowledge of the network configuration at the hosting site, might I suggest that this could be a hardware issue?

Could it be an array missing members that can’t be recovered or a memory bank dead or dying? If the forum database(s) are striped across multiple drives or arrays or a memory bank on a RAID controller is bad, blah blah blah.......
